Beginner Bits for Your Own New Woodworking Router
Getting a woodworking router for small and large-scale projects enables you to create finer quality pieces. Modern routers allow you to cut through wood with precision and accuracy even if you haven’t used one before. What you end up having are pieces that appear like professional carpenters and craftsmen put them together.
The thing that makes these modern woodworking routers just the thing for many projects is its adaptability. You’ll be able to select a mounted model for bigger projects or a handheld one for trimmings and various smaller projects, and also for decorative projects that require precision movements. You utilize it mainly for cutting pieces you need to use for constructing projects like doors and storage cabinets. However, its capabilities don’t stop there. By using interchangeable router bits, your ordinary woodworking router turns into a machine ideal for creating decorative pieces, for example moulding for your ceilings or designs for your doors and cupboards. Actually, a router is useless without the bits that go with it.
Get a complete group of bits in your local home improvement center. There are two main types of router bits you must have handy: technical and decorative bits. Technical bits do basic cutting tasks and tend to be easier to use. You will find they’ve got smaller diameters, which in turn give you additional control over your machine. Besides cutting wood planks easily, these bits let your routers to make slots, grooves, and other engravings. Carpenters use it to make mortise and tenon joints in their projects. Be sure you get the 1/2-inch diameter straight bit and the 1/2-inch mortise in your basic starter kit. These are good starter pieces and you may do much with these pieces already.
Another bit to get your basic starter kit will be the 7 degree angle to 15 degree angle bit. You utilize these bits for trimming wood corners. It is ideal for putting together drawers, cupboards, and shelves. You can even use it when cutting pieces for your own special frames.
Decorative moulding bits create various designs on the wood you’re working with. Good examples worth mentioning are dovetail bits, which you’ll use for creating mortises; spiral bits, which smooths out the edges of your own material; and the V-grooving bit, to use for engraving lettering and signage on to your project. Just as with the technical bits, begin with smaller sizes for the basic kit and work your way up as you learn to use your woodworking router with additional control.
Check out your local hardware stores or home improvement shops in case your router package doesn’t include these basic items. Ask your retailer regarding the designs they’ve got, and also the materials used for these bits. Prior to buying anything, make sure you confirm the dimensions of your machine’s shank first in order to avoid getting a bit that won’t fit. As soon as you get these pieces, practice using a few pieces and very soon you can easily craft elaborate designs similar to a true professional. You could add an individual touch to your house with your very own tools.
